Acupuncture is a 3000-year-old healing technique that originated in ancient China. Acupuncture improves the physiological function of the body and promotes the natural process of self-healing by inducing specific areas of the body, known as acupuncture points. Acupuncture points are accessed and stimulated by inserting fine, sterile needles into the skin. This process may be further enhanced by electrical stimulation, manual massage, and cupping. Application of topical herbal liniments and heat are also used to help support the treatment. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the body is made up of pathways or meridians, in which qi, or energy, flow. Health is the final result of proper balance of this energy, and illnessis likely to be a result of an imbalance of this energy. Qi can be accessed through the acupuncture points; when needles are inserted and stimulated at these points, energy flow is brought back into balance and health can be restored.
Despite having been used for thousands of years as the primary form of medical intervention in the East, acupuncture and Chinese medicine have recently become a popular, cost effective alternative for a litany ofchronic health issues. Using a combination of acupuncture, gua sha, cupping, herbal therapies, manual therapy, nutritional guidance, meditation, movement re-education and more, we are able to provide lasting relief for: headaches, neck/back/shoulder/hip/knee pain, anxiety, depression, gastric ulcers, sciatica, stroke, post-operative pain and recovery, allergies, asthma, dysmenorrhea, morning sickness and many others (as reported by the World Health Organization). That list has only grown since that world-wide reportwas published in 1996. Let us show you the profound power of this medicine, using our combination of ancient knowledge and cutting edge modern technology.
We utilize Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies such as neurofunctional electrical acupuncture, herbal medicines, cupping, moxibustion, and other non-needle oriented techniques to treat the root cause of the disorder, not just the symptoms.
While you are under our care, it is also our goal to teach you the importance of self-care through balanced nutrition, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle.
Chinese medicine has always been, first and foremost, a method of fostering and nourishing life. Because of this, the treatment of infertility was and is still one of the most important contributions of our healing tradition.

Chinese medicine is practiced using needles, herbs, cups, parts of animals, stones, fire, water, and more. Today, the tools have become more refined, but the goal remains the same: balance, and attunement to nature. Using acupuncture, diet, exercise, herbal therapies and more, we work with your to restore balance and allow your body’s innate intelligence to heal itself as it was meant to.
Acupuncture is a technique, which utilizes fine sterile, single-use, stainless steel needles that are placed in specific locations of the body called acupuncture points. There is scientific research supporting the mechanism and efficacy of acupuncture for a wide variety of pain conditions such as: low back pain, neck pain, knee pain, and migraine headaches. There is also research that indicates acupuncture for the treatment of psychological conditions including, depression and anxiety. Acupuncture has been known to stimulate neurotransmitters in the brain, increasing serotonin and epinephrine levels. This leads to an extreme state of relaxation following an acupuncture treatment, and a reduction in overall stress and anxiety.
Cupping is a technique that has been used for thousands of years. It is performed by placing special suction cups on the skin to disperse stagnant blood and toxins. Congested blood is drawn to the surface, while fresh blood and lymph are stimulated in the affected area. As a result, there is a decrease in pain, stiffness, and tension. Cupping is great for treating: musculoskeletal pain, respiratory issues, digestive problems, skin disorders, and more!
Moxibustion is an enormous part of all ancient Asian healing traditions, and still widely practiced today. Developed in the colder areas of China, it was used as a method of combating the deleterious effects of low temperatures on the circulation of Qi and blood, which drain the body’s Yang energy. Moxibustion can improve circulation, strengthen the body’s energy, stimulate digestive function, and boost the immune system.
Mediation exists in both religious and secular philosophical traditions throughout history. It is practiced all over the world in many different forms, with many different goals. Some practitioners of meditation aim to achieve altered states of consciousness or bliss states, while some aim to contact the world and the mind as it is without any bias. Some forms of meditation involve visualizations, while others concentrate on sounds, or sensations of the body. Many techniques involve sitting, while others involve movement. Meditation has many health benefits including: stress reduction, improved concentration, increased happiness and overall wellbeing.
Herbal medicine is often used in addition to acupuncture and other Chinese medicinal therapies. Herbal substances are either plant, mineral, or animal based. Combinations of these herbs are used synergistically in the treatment of disease or the prevention of illness. Chinese herbal formulas come in many different forms such as raw, powder, or pill form.
Pilates is a method of exercise and physical movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Widely embraced among dancers for years, the exercises are popping up in fitness classes, physical therapy offices, corporate retreats, and wellness centers across the country.
Acupuncture for Facial Rejuvenation
In Chinese medicine, health begins from the inside out. The face and skin are indicators of the state of the internal organs. When there are imbalances in the body it can often manifest as: dark circles, puffiness, sagging of the skin, premature aging and excessive wrinkles. Acupuncture for facial rejuvenation is a treatment within the tradition of Chinese medicine. By inserting thin needles into the face, we help to promote collagen, lymphatic drainage and blood circulation. This helps to restore vital nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells, helping to improve elasticity while eliminating fine lines and wrinkles.
Modern medicine now tries to relate most diseases to a psychosomatic origin. This is exactly where acupuncture has relied for the last few millennia. This ancient technique believes that every disorder has a base in the mind-body link where if the mind is not balanced then the body shows the symptoms regarding diseases.
Western researchers have done a lot to understand the mechanism of medical acupuncture, hence, encouraging the acceptance of this therapy in modern medicinal practices. So much has now been understood on how acupuncture modulates the immune system, endocrine system and affecting the health in general. With all these developments over the years, using acupuncture in modern medicine is becoming more and more of an official way of treatment for many diseases.
In 1987, the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture was founded with less than fifty members, but currently, it has more than 1600 members. This organization includes only those with M.D, D. O license or its equivalent for practicing medicine in the US or Canada.
For so long, traditional Chinese medicine lurked in the shadows of the western medicine till the Long March of 1934/35 when sick, and wounded soldiers were faced with death as they lacked medicine and anesthetics or any surgery. This is when doctors trained in Chinese medicine used acupuncture and achieved amazing results.
This occurrence brought about the beginning of practicing western and Chinese medicine side by side. In 1948, all the branches of traditional Chinese medicine were nurtured so that by 1978 research departments and hospitals were devoted to making traditional Chinese medicine better. This made acupuncture to be continually accepted so as to gain a wider use around the world. It has continued to develop as a standard of medicine with research studies confirming its efficacy.
From its origin in the northwest parts of China where there was a scarcity of herbs and other medical remedies, acupuncture spread throughout the world via the traveling physicians, pilgrims, and scholars. Continued practice in new places helped the practice gain acceptance one community at a time over the span of its existence, including our very own NYC.

The sensations can be different for everybody, but the most common descriptions of how it feels from our patients are warm, tingly, electric, achy, and heavy. Remember, SENSATION IS GOOD! Sensation means the acupuncture point is being activated and the natural healing process is underway.
Our NYC acupuncture service uses single-use disposable needles sealed by the manufacturer in sterile conditions. The needles are open just prior to use by the acupuncturist new york practitioner. Because of this, the risk of infection is extremely low. This practice is widely used in developed countries.
Our treatment lasts from half an hour to an hour, but it depends on the patient’s needs. Bear in mind that most of the time you will be in a fully relaxed state and falling asleep to the peaceful music.
Each case and condition is treated individually. However, many of our patients experienced relief after only a few sessions. The goal is to eliminate the root cause of your symptoms, therefore a series of sessions is recommended to prevent relapse of the symptoms.
Acupuncture is often the final missing element that allows you to cross the line from infertility to fertility by enabling your body to function more efficiently in conjunction with modern reproductive treatments such as IVF.
The main culprit for infertility is modern day stress.
Our body is evolutionarily programmed to be less fertile during stressful environments. Medieval stressful conditions such as war and famine have been replaced with modern day versions such as high-pressure business transactions, personal financial problems, increasing pollution, and an ever-expanding to-do list. Nonetheless, stress is stress; it is the same type of damage done to our body regardless of what version of stress it is.
These stress factors are not just in your head; they penetrate deep into your body at the hormonal and molecular level. Excessive stress may even lead to complete suppression of the menstrual cycle, and in less severe cases, it could cause anovulation or irregular menstrual cycles. The insertion of acupuncture needles has been shown to effectively increase uterine blood circulation.
Acupuncture can enable your own body to naturally undo and stop this molecular damage in a way that no Western medical treatments can do.
Yes! You can find the complete list of treatable conditions above. However, the most common chronic pain conditions that our patients seek help for are:
Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years, and thanks to the modern day upgrade of this timeless medical treatment, there are no known negative side effects from the use of hair-thin sterile needles.
The basic western explanation of how acupuncture works is based on the acupuncture needle initiating nerve impulse, which is transmitted to the spinal cord, which then results in a local release of tissue mediators & neurotransmitters that cause vasodilation (dilation of the blood vessels), as a result increasing local perfusion and anti-inflammatory reflex responses.
These mediators also possess potential growth-promoting effects, which among other things, speeds repair processes. There is also an inhibiting effect on the processing of nociceptive pain control mechanism. B-endorphins in particular are important for pain control as well as regulating mood, blood pressure and body temperature.
Although Acupuncture is a traditional healing method, it is now an approach that is widely used in many parts of the world and covered by numerous insurance policies. While it can mainly be used to promote the natural self-healing process of the body as well as improve standard bodily functions, it is also widely used for common day-to-day issues such as stress and anxiety.
It is mostly used in western cultures to alleviate stress through the release of natural pain-killing chemicals from the brain, commonly known as endorphins. This is important because when stress builds up in the body, it can create numbing pain and cause our minds to stay pre-occupied. With acupuncture NYC, this can be reduced since the procedure helps improve blood circulation and it oxygenates the body tissues.
Studies that have been conducted to measure the effectiveness of acupuncture for weight loss observed numerous benefits. These includes an increase in ghrelin, a hormone that regulates the storage of fat and metabolism by controlling meal initiation and decreasing leptin. Other benefits include the fact that it is very effective in weight loss control programs.
The most important benefit of our acupuncture in NYC is that it can power up any other weight control program by:
Additionally, it is a source of strength for the proper functioning of the liver, increasing the tone in smoothening of muscles of the stomach especially for people who are full.
